Obituary of Melissa Denise POIRIER-SANDERS

May 18, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Melissa Denise Poirier-Sanders of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the young age of 36 years.

Melissa felt her greatest accomplishments in her life were her two children, Emma, age 17 and Isaiah, age 8. These two were the light of her life and everything she did was for their good.

Melissa, as a single mom, tried diligently to care for her children while taking the Petroleum Technologist Engineering course at SAIT and we are proud of her hard work and achievements in this highly demanding course load. She was so looking forward to completing her training and working in that field.

Melissa had a passion for singing and enjoyed going to karaoke nights with her sister, friends and cousins and singing her heart out to her favorite country western songs.

Melissa loved camping with her kids, friends and cousins and they took the time to do that whenever they could! She craved being outside in the sunshine near the water and just enjoying life. She also always relished taking part in the fun and food at family gatherings!

She will be most remembered for her kindness, compassion and strength; as well as that beautiful, genuine smile and the laughter that shone through her eyes. She will also be remembered for her spirit of determination in caring for her children and fighting her long battle so courageously.

Melissa is survived by her parents, Heather and Michael Kemp and Claude Poirier; her daughter, Emma Kaylee Sanders; her son, Isaiah Barry Sanders-Kitching; her siblings, Jesse Kemp, Bianca Rae Scott, Jeremy Michael Kemp (Savannah), Cheryl Lynn Kemp; her nieces, Tachtiannia, Princessa, Cassandra, and Halaina; her grandfather, Frederic Murray Sanders; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, her paternal family (Poirier family) in Quebec, and her friends!

Melissa was predeceased by her Grandma, Doris Edna Slater; her Aunt, Cheryl Lynn Sanders; Uncle Keith Eugene McNabb; Grandma, Rollande Poirier; Grandpa, Rhéo Poirier; Aunt Francine Poirier (Poulin) and cousin Richard Poirier.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY () on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com

Pour Melissa ses deux enfants, Emma, âgée de 17 ans, et Isaïe, âgée de 8 ans, étaient sa plus grande réussite dans sa vie. Ils étaient la lumière de sa vie et tout ce qu’elle faisait était dans leur intérêt.

Melissa, en tant que mère célibataire, a essayé avec diligence de prendre soin de ses enfants tout en suivant le cours d’ingénieure en technologie du pétrole à SAIT et nous sommes très fières de son travail acharné et de ses réalisations malgré cette charge de cours très exigeante. Elle avait tellement hâte de terminer sa formation et de travailler dans ce domaine.

Melissa avait une passion pour le chant et aimait aller aux soirées karaoké avec sa sœur, ses amis et ses cousins et chanter avec cœur ses chansons préférées de Western occidental.

Melissa adorait aller en camping avec ses enfants, ses amis et ses cousins et ils prenaient le temps de le faire quand ils le pouvaient! Elle aimait être dehors au soleil, près de l’eau et profiter de la vie dans la nature. Elle a également toujours aimé participer au divertissement et à la nourriture lors de réunions de famille.

On se souviendra surtout de sa gentillesse, de sa compassion et de sa force, mais aussi de ce beau sourire sincère et de ces rires qui brillaient dans ses yeux, ainsi que sa grande détermination à prendre soin de ses enfants tout en menant sa longue bataille avec autant de courage.

Melissa laisse dans le deuil ses parents – Heather et Michael Kemp et Claude Poirier; sa fille, Emma Kaylee Sanders 17 ans, son fils, Isaiah Barry Sanders-Kitching 8 ans; ses frères et soeurs, Jesse Kemp; Bianca Rae Scott; Jeremy Michael Kemp (Savannah); Cheryl Lynn Kemp; et ses nièces, Tachtiannia, Princessa, Cassandra et Halaina; et son grand-père, Fredric Murray Sanders ainsi que de nombreux , oncles et tantes, cousins et cousines dans différentes provinces au Canada incluant sa famille paternelle au Québec, et ses nombreux amis.

Melissa a été précédée par sa grand-mère, Doris Edna Slater, sa tante, Cheryl Lynn Sanders et son oncle Keith Eugene McNabb, sa grand-mère Rollande Poirier, son grand-père Rheo Poirier, sa tante Francine Poirier (Poulin) et son cousin Richard Poirier.
