Obituary of JOÓ– Géza Lászlo

August 1910 – July 2010 Peacefully in the early hours of Monday, July 12, 2010 in Calgary, Alberta, Géza Lászlo Joó left this earthly realm. Unflinching and steadfast in his faith and beliefs, he leaves to mourn his much beloved Elizabeth, wife of more than sixty six years. Géza was born in Karcag, Hungary and graduated from the University of Budapest in 1932 with a Doctorate (honours) in Hungarian Judicial Law. Regrettably, his promising career was cut short by the turmoil and aftermath of the Second World War, and in 1945 he fled his native land with his wife and newly born son. Life initially was in an International Red Cross Refugee Camp for displaced persons, however in 1949, the Canadian government saw fit to grant him status to immigrate to Canada. It was a decision he never regretted and frequently remarked of how blessed he was for the loving hand of God in guiding him to Canada. Géza will be fondly remembered by his wife Elizabeth Joó, his son Andrew Joó (Bonnie Malach), his daughter Charlotte (Ray) Kenney, and his son Peter (Patty) Joó; his grandchildren Rachel (Robert) Patterson , Stephen Joó (Colleen Geary-Joó), Christopher Joó, Bethany Joó, and Rebecca Malach; his great grandchildren Blyth Oswald, William Joó, James Joó, Alexandra Joó; nieces, Charlotte (Duane) Keinick, Maria Némethy, Martha Szönyi, and Judy Szönyi (Tom Dobbie). Géza also leaves to remember his life, numerous nieces and nephews and his only sister Magdolina Göbölyös, all currently residing in Hungary. Géza was pre-deceased by his daughter-in-law, Doreen Joó in 2006 and a brother-in-law, Károly Göbölyös in 1984. Friends are warmly invited to celebrate Géza’s life at a Memorial service to be held in the Garden Room at Southwood Care Centre (211 Heritage Drive S.E.) on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Jon Harwood of the Solid Rock Baptist Church will lead the celebration.
