Obituary of James Ian Moir Rainbow

Jim Rainbow of Calgary passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, on Friday, July 11, 2008 at the age of 77 years. Jim was born in Toronto – eventually coming to St. Thomas, ON. He attended Queen’s University and worked as a Civil Engineer in both Ontario and Alberta. He started Canadian Tennis Associates and built tennis courts and running tracks throughout the West. Jim was a long-standing member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, having served as a Board member and an Elder. He also volunteered for many organizations, but the 1988 Olympics and Southland Dog Park were his favourites. Jim was an honourable, gentle man who loved music, art, bird watching, furniture refinishing, cars, sports, politics, and wine. Besides his loving wife Anne, Jim is also survived by his sons, Stephen and Jim (Jennifer); and three special granddaughters, Sydney, Cassidy and Melissa. Jim was predeceased by his parents James W. and Margaret Rainbow and an infant sister Norma. He will also be missed by his sisters-in-law and their families, Doris Kiefer, Paul (Jacqy) Kiefer and Jayne (Don) Baird, all of Cayuga, ON, and Edna Kiefer, Heather Ann (Dakota) Purdy, all of Burlington, ON; and by his extended family, Sandra and John Jack.
