Obituary of Beverley S. Harrison

Beverley S. Harrison of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the age of 75 years. Bev was born on August 6, 1932 to parents Frank Stafford Harrison and Anna Mae Harrison (nee Lawson) in Calgary. He was raised in Elbow Park and attended many schools in Calgary including, Christopher Robin Kindergarten, the Strathcona School for Boys, Central Memorial High School, and Mount Royal College. He also attended the University of Oklahoma where he received his BSc in Geological Engineering in 1957 and attended the University of Oregon where he received his MBA Management in 1977. Bev spent his working life in the oil patch for various seismic contracts and oil companies including Accurate Geophysical; Highland exploration; GSI; Amerada Petroleum; GAI (Australia); Socony Mobile; Sunray DX; Sonatrach (Algeria); Kenting Exploration; and he finished his career as Senior Staff Geophysicist for Pan Canadian Petroleum Ltd. During his later years Bev was involved many community organizations as a volunteer including being Past President of the Calgary Singles Council; Past President of the Calgary Aerospace Museum Association; past member of the Retreads Motorcycle Club; the Calgary Flying Club; 403 Squadron Aux. Shaganappi 60 Toastmasters Club; he volunteered with the 2005 bid committee ; was on the Mayor’s Advisory Council; volunteered with the Medical Research for Prostate Cancer Institute; was a member of the Prostate Support Group; served as Operations Manager Civil Air Search and Rescue Association; and was Vice Chair and Treasurer on the Alberta Council on Aging Region 6. Bev was also a member of the CHR Falls Prevention Committee; was a member of the board and President of the Kerby Centre; was an Emeritous member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists; and was a Life-time member of the Professional Geophysicists of APEGGA. Bev is survived by his daughter Karen; grandsons, Christopher, Brandon and Cameron; by his son Tony; and by his granddaughter Brittney. He was predeceased by his parents.
