Obituary of Edward Jacob KERYLUK

January 26, 1929 – Meleb, Manitoba September 15, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Edward at the age of 88. Ed was born in Meleb, Manitoba and remained deeply proud and connected to his hometown and Ukranian heritage. His favorite foods were always Florence’s homemade perogies, holupchi, perishky and borscht, and going out to dine on spareribs. He loved yard work and was passionate about his lush green, weed free lawn and gardens. Ed would spend hours tending his yard and was meticulous in achieving beautifully manicured grass and shrubs. In his retirement Ed enjoyed reading the Calgary Herald daily and would complete the crosswords entirely each and every day. He loved the weather and would always share how hot it was in the sun on the deck. A fan of sports Ed liked to watch baseball, hockey and would watch all the major curling tournaments with Florence. Together they would pass the days enjoying the views of the Bow River from their kitchen window and would often see a variety of wildlife in their back yard. During his youth Ed played competitive level softball where he won 2 Manitoba provincial championships (1955, 1956), 2 league MVP awards (1951, 1952) and was the 1959 league batting champion with a season average of .528. In 1996 Ed was inducted into the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame in recognition of his 10 year playing career. A lifelong employee of Massey Ferguson Ed spent 41 years with the company in a variety of management roles in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Mississauga and Calgary where he would spend days travelling by car to see clients and share his pride in the Massey brand. Most of all Ed will be remembered for his love of family and how deeply he cherished each and every one of his relatives. His marriage to the love of his life Florence was his greatest joy and they were an inseparable partnership. He doted on her and graciously attended to her with a selfless love that is an inspiration to all of us who were blessed to be part of their bond. He will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his wife of 63 plus years Florence (nee Czurak), his daughters Corilee and Leanne (Jason Knights) and his grandchildren Brandon and Avery Kinsella and Caitlyn Knights. Edward is survived by his brother Elmer (Jean) Keryluk, sister Florence (Ron) Osesky and extended family members. He was predeceased by his daughter Darla in 1966, his sisters Anne (Frank) Miller and Jean (Larry) Thomas, his brothers Frank and Bert lost in infancy, and parents Nicholas and Paulina. Florence and family wish to extend their gratitude to the staff of Calgary South Health Campus Unit 66 for the compassion and care that they provided Ed over the past weeks.
