Obituary of Cornelis Jasper HANSUM

March 23, 1940 – Sliedrecht, Holland September 10, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta It is with great sadness that the family of Casey Hansum announce his passing on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the Foothills Medical Centre at the age of 79 years. Casey began his life in Sliedrecht, Holland on March 23, 1940, and spent the first five years of his life during WWII, of which he had incredibly vivid memories. In 1950 he, along with his family immigrated to Canada to settle in Red Deer, AB, where he married the love of his life Renee. In 1970 he left Red Deer with his young family to live in Calgary. Although a born salesman, he credits his former employer Procter & Gamble with teaching him the finer points of selling. His vision and enthusiasm turned his fledgling company, Custom Amenities, into a thriving business. Casey volunteered at the Spruce Meadows Tournaments for many years as the Ringmaster in the All Canada ring. After retiring, he and Renee spent their winters in Scottsdale, AZ, where he loved golfing and could be found most days with his buddies swapping stories at the pool. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife of fifty-five years, Renee; sons, Rob (Marilyn) and Peter (Dylan); daughters, Toni and Teri (Rick); six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn, his sister Corry (Allan); sisters-in-law, Lenie and Dorothy to whom he was very close to; his life-long friend Hans (Tini) van der Sluijs in the Netherlands; and many nieces and nephews. Casey was predeceased by his parents, Pieter and Pietertje; and brothers, Bruce, Peter and Tom. He will surely be missed by all and he will continue to live on in our hearts and memories. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY () on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Casey’s family wishes to thank the various medical teams at the Foothills Medical Centre, particularly the doctors and nurses in the ICU who fought so hard to save him, but ultimately his body could no longer sustain life and with his family surrounding him, he went to be with his Lord.
