Obituary of Hugh McCarthy

July 18, 1926 – August 16, 2017 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Born in Luton, England, Hugh immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of three years, settling in the Ottawa area. At age eighteen he enlisted in the army but never saw active duty due to the 1945 end of the war. This weighed heavily on him his entire life as he desperately wanted to serve his adopted country. In 1952 he moved west, settling in Edmonton, where he soon met his future bride, Kathryn (Kip) Jarvis whom he married in 1953. In 1960 they made Calgary their permanent home where they raised their two daughters, Anne and Peggy. Hugh spent his career in the business forms manufacturing industry and, along with a colleague, launched their own successful company, Pro Forms Ltd. in 1971. Hugh is survived by daughters Anne Isbister (Robert Maxim) and Peggy Lyall; grandchildren Ashley (Matthew), Michael, Courtney and Ben; great-grandchildren Keira, Sydney, Colbie and Quinn; brother Bill McCarthy, sister Ivy Moore and numerous nieces and nephews. Hugh was predeceased by his beloved wife Kathryn; sister Kay Brennan and son-in-law Ken Isbister. A Celebration of Hugh’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre, 6500, 7007 – 14th St. SW, Calgary, AB T2V 1P6. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and love to Tracy S. (RN), the angel who went above and beyond to assist, support and guide us through this difficult time.
