Obituary of Kenneth Ross BURTON

December 25, 1929 – Haileybury, Ontario August 27, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our Wonderful Dad, Husband and Grandfather on August 27, 2017 at the age of 87 years. We know that we were all extremely lucky to have had him in our lives for this long. Heaven had plans for him, and has called him home. Ken was born in Haileybury Ontario on Christmas Day in 1929 (before dinner and after supper on ChriXmas Day, as he liked to tell us). He was the last of seven children born to Harry and Lillian Burton. He dreamed of moving West and when he was eighteen he hitchhiked to Calgary with only a few dollars in his pocket and relied on the kindness of strangers to get him here. He began working in the Oil and Gas Industry and then met his wife of nearly 55 years, Marion, in 1961. They married in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in November 10, 1962. Ken’s career had them on the move and when Doug was born in Calgary they were then transferred all of over the place. Cessford, Edson, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (where Barbie was born) back to Calgary back to P.E.I., again and then finally back to Calgary. Ken spent five months overseeing a project in Perth, Australia in 1979 and his wife and children were able to accompany him for three of those months, a trip of a lifetime that included Hawaii and Disneyland, one that we will never forget. In his later years, Ken fulfilled his passion by writing and publishing two books, “Straight from the Heart” and “God’s Three Strays”. His dedication and commitment to getting his message out made us all very proud. What Ken took most pride in was his precious family. He doted on his wife and kids and then received so much joy from his Grandchildren. He was very involved with them and never missed a concert or recital, sports game or special occasion. Ken adored the many pets that entered his life. He welcomed them all with open arms and the menagerie of dogs and cats played a big part in providing him with much joy, comfort and love. Ken was an enthusiast of anything regarding Calgary. He was a faithful fan of the Calgary Flames and the Stampeders and loved watching these games and cheering them on with his wife by his side. Ken was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was always ready and willing to play a game of Crib or Gin Rummy. Few ever won against him. Ken is lovingly remembered by his wife Marion, son Doug( Alana), Daughter Barb (Darrel) and four Grandchildren Brittany(Elisha), Jordon, Hannah and Faith. He is survived by his brother Jim and numerous nieces and nephews. His family is his living legacy. Ken’s family would like to express their heart felt gratitude for all of the love and prayers of support during these past several weeks. A special Thanks to Dr. Tsoi and to all of the wonderful nurses on Unit44 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital for their care and compassion to our dear Dad. A Celebration of Life will be determined at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Calgary Humane Society, 4455 – 110th Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2C 2T7, Telephone: (403)205-4455, www.calgaryhumane.ca., or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory Forever and ever Amen. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
