Obituary of Judith Irene DAVIES

DAVIES, Judith (Judi) Irene January 30, 1947 – Swift Current, Saskatchewan March 1, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta Judi Davies of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the age of 69 years. Judi was born in Swift Current, SK to her parents, Maurice and Helen (nee Smith) Jeffery, and was the second of their five children. She attended Central School in Swift Current and finished her high school years at O.M. Irwin Collegiate. Judi excelled at school achieving honor roll status and played on the school championship basketball team and running hurdles. Judi moved to Calgary in 1965 as a nursing student at the General Hospital. It was during this year she met Peter who later became her husband on July 30, 1966. Following this union of marriage, they moved to Drayton Valley in August 1966 for Peter’s work. During this time Judi worked as a Practical Nurse at the hospital and as a file clerk for AMACO. In 1968, Judi and Peter returned to Calgary where she managed a dental office until December 1970. In March 1971 they began their family with the birth of their first son Jeffery; followed with the addition of their daughter Kara and later on their son Christopher. While raising her family, Judi was an active member Southwood United Church where she taught Sunday school as well as being highly involved with the education of her children. Judi re-entered the work force in 1986 working at her favourite store “The Tall Girl Shop”, while obtaining her CAPA Certificate in Production accounting. In 1988 she started working at Pennzoil Petroleum and later at Gulf Canada as an accountant. Judi’s love of the ocean and beaches took her on many cruises, working on her Sudoku, playing bridge and cooking for family gatherings. Judi’s favorite time of the year was Christmas when all of her family would gather. Due to Judi’s health, she was forced to retire early, but entered into the greatest part of her life by being a grandmother. Judi became a grandmother; affectionally known as “Nana”, a name she inherited by her own grandmother in October of 1996 with the arrival of her grandson Keegan. Her joy grew with the addition of Jack, Jaidyn, Sawyer, Colton, Cayden, Cullen and Cieran. She enjoyed spoiling each and every one of them, especially with the rides on her wheelchair. Judi was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Her family was always the centre of her world and she will be truly missed. Judi is survived by her husband Peter; her children, Jeffery, Kara (Bryan), Christopher (Jolene); and grandchildren, Keegan, Jack, Jaidyn, Sawyer, Colton, Cayden, Cullen and Cieran. Her sisters; Maureen, Elaine (Wayne) and Mary (Cal); and her brother William “Bill” (Catherine) and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Judi was predeceased by her parents; Maurice and Helen, and brothers-in law, Charles and David and sister-in-law Susan and her dog Sarah. A Celebration of Judi’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 10:30a.m. Interment will take place at Queen’s Park Cemetery as well committal at sea will take place by Judi’s family at a later date.
