Obituary of Daniel Roy McDERMOTT

November 29, 1950 – Bonnyville, Alberta August 13, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel (Dan) Roy McDermott, who passed away peacefully at the hospital in Calgary with his family on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at the age of 68 yrs. Born on November 29, 1950 in Bonnyville, Alberta, Dan joined the military in 1971 with the Royal Canadian Regiment in Petawawa, ON. On December 23, 1971 he married his wife Shirley and they moved to Petawawa in February of 1972. He had a very successful military career and made his way to Captain before retiring in 1991, with twenty years of service. He became a realtor with Roberts Real Estate in 1992 and spent the next 25 years helping people buy and sell their homes through different companies. Dan was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and volunteer who worked tirelessly to enrich the lives of everyone around him. If you ever needed anything you know he would be there. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to movies with his daughter Sabrina and attending his grandsons many games, competitions, and recitals. Dan is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Anita Harder (Greg), Sabrina McDermott, Shawn McDermott (Brielle); grandchildren, Aiden, Kyle and Brendan. Sisters Mary, Evelyn, Joyce Bonnie, Emily, brothers Adrian and Andre and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 285 () on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 2 p.m. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared to his family through dan_mcd@telus.net.
