Obituary of Margaret Red Wing Blackbird Woman HUNTER

October 18, 1930 – James River area, Alberta October 11, 2014 – Canmore, Alberta Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, step-mother, sister, aunt, and cousin, Margaret Hunter, passed away at the Canmore Hospital on October 11, 2014 at the age of 83 years, just 7 days shy of her 84th birthday. Margaret was a kind loving woman who respected and honored the traditional Nakoda customs and traditions. She attended the Morley residential school and was influenced by the Christian teachings. Margaret was the second oldest of 8 siblings. She worked as a custodian at the Tatanga Mani Sportsplex from 1978 – 1990, when she retired. She loved sports and was a very enthusiastic fan, loudly cheering on her sons, nephews, and nieces as they played hockey, and softball. She was known as Morley’s number one hockey fan. Margaret loved participating in Round dances, Sun dances, Powwow’s and travelled great distances across North America. Margaret is survived by her sons, Tyrone (Verna) and Clint (Cindy), step-daughter, Tina; brother, Jeffery (Evelyn); sister Barbara; grandchildren, Darren Jr, Chatelaine (Bernie), Stephen (Cleo), Cory, Olivia (Desi); adopted daughters, Mina Powderface, Pam Hunter and Dianne Rider; adopted sons, Bowen House and Clement Hunter; and numerous relatives, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Isaac, Tom and Judas in the 1930’s – 1940’s; father, Isaac Hunter in 1941; sister, Vivian in 1950; daughter, Evalina in 1950; son, Roosevelt in 1963; son, Radford Derek in 1965; son, Terry in 1960; sister, Beatrice Poucette and her husband Noah Poucette in 1970; son, Leslie in 1977; son, Darren in 2001; mother, Flora in 2004; and sister, Brenda in 2007. We apologize if we have missed anyone. Wake Services will be held at the residence Cindy and Clint Hunter (Morley, AB) on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 to Thursday, October 16, 2014. Funeral Services will be held at Morley Gymnasium (Morley, AB) on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. A Graveside Service to follow at Wesley Cemetery (Morley, AB). The family extends a great heartfelt thank you to the Stoney Health Center home care nurses; Olivia and her husband Desi, Michelle Salter, Cory and Bernie, and Mina Powderface who were with her on her last two nights at the hospital. The family also thanks Dianne Rider for always being there for mother. We would like to say ishniyes to all who came and visited her in the hospital.
