Obituary of Henrietta Joy CHINIQUAY

On Wednesday, October 23, 2019, Henrietta Joy Chiniquay was called home to our “Great Creator” and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at the age of 51. The sudden passing of Joy has left our community with a great deal of grief and sorrow to many family, friends, and relatives that knew her.

Joy was born on February 27, 1968. She was an only child. Joy was a granddaughter of the late Peter Wesley who was one of the founders of Christian Fellowship Camp meetings on the Stoney reserve. Therefore, she was raised with Christian beliefs and values and dedicated her life to the Christian Ministries. Joy was blessed and gifted with singing and writing Gospel songs all of her life. She started singing Gospel songs, encouraged by her grandfather at age of 7 years old, along with her cousins, Leona, Jolene, and late Angie. Joy received her education in Springbank, Morley Community School, and attended high School at Eagle Point. In her teen years, she was very athletic and enjoyed, skiing, playing baseball, and she joined a softball team. She was also a black belt in Martial Arts. Her hobbies included, horseback riding, berry picking, bead-working, and mostly her passion was creating and performing praise and worship songs to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As an only child, Joy was adopted by many families in our community as a daughter or sister. She accepted the role as an adopted daughter or sister and had great fondness and closeness to the families. She developed a special relationship with Yvonne Poucette, Mary Jane Beaver, Johnny Ear and their extended families. 

Joy leaves behind to mourn her loving husband of thirty-five years, Oral, sons, Rommel, Nicholas, Javan, Joshua, Steven, and Zachary; a grandchild Jennifer, uncles, Buddy, Clarance (Shirley);  aunts, Doris and Lorianne; cousins, Geraldine (Harvey), Margery, Laverne (Douglas), Jarod, Evan (Betty), Leona (Tristin), Clarance Jr. (Olivia), Jolene (Jason), Michelle, Boyd (Karrie); mother-in-law Helen Chiniquay, sisters-in-law, Bernice (Johnny), Sharon(Duane), Brenda (Mervin); brother-in-law Brandon, and special niece Roberta (Noble). She was predeceased by her late mother Jennifer Wesley and many relatives.

Relatives include, Wesley, Powderface, Chiniquay, Labelle, Kaquitts, Hunter, Beaver, Ear, Holloway, Crawler, Baptiste, Marks, Simeon, Twoyoungmen, Abraham, Poucette, Dixon, Lefthand. The family apologizes if we have missed anyone.

Wake Services will be held at the residence of Oral Chiniquay (Morley, AB) on Monday, October 28, and Tuesday, October 29, 2019.  Funeral Services will be held at Morley Gymnasium (Morley, AB) on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Chiniki Cemetery (Morley, AB).  Forward condolences through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
