Obituary of James (Jim) Beverley TOBIN

James (Jim) BeverleyTobin of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at the age of 93 years.

Jim was born in Evarts, AB on December 4, 1925, to Lilia Mae (nee Jackson) and James Francis Tobin. By the age of ten, he was helping his father skidding logs and working in a sawmill. After leaving the farm, he worked in construction and walked pipeline before starting his long career in the oil patch. Jim married Madell Harris in 1945 and fathered four children, Lyla, Marlow, Linda and Lanna. Subsequently divorcing, he married Hilda Froelich in 1956, fathering two sons, Ken and Brad. In 1962, he moved the family to Australia, returning in 1966, before moving on to tours in Libya and Venezuela. During the 1980s, Jim was a wellsite supervisor in western Canada and the High Arctic. After retiring from the rigs, he owned and operated tanker trucks, a tractor-trailer unit and, subsequently, a gravel truck into his late 70s. In addition to gardening, he enjoyed travelling and genealogy, combining both to successfully trace his family roots through the central and western United States.

Jim could fix anything, always had time for everybody and loved visiting and telling yarns. He will be remembered for his competence, kindness, sense of humour and generosity.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Hilda; children, Lyla (John) Chipperfield, Linda (John) Graham, Lanna (Gino) Coletta, Ken (Judy) and Brad (Debbie); twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Marlow and great-grandson Zachary.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.  Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
