Obituary of Margaret (Joan) DOBBIE (nee Vaillancourt)

September 28, 1938 – Argenteuil, Quebec

November 21, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Joan Dobbie of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the age of 81years.

Joan was born in Argenteuil, QB on September 28, 1938 to Charles Vaillancourt and Evelyn (John) McLean. She moved to Calgary, AB in 1977 with her family, and eventually settled in Okotoks, AB.

Joan was an artistic and creative soul. You could count on her to be tending to her garden, working on her latest masterpiece in her art studio, or knitting an afghan blanket for any new additions to the family. She had a unique and special relationship with each member of her family, and took pride in being the matriarch of a close-knit family unit. Whether it was over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, she was always available for a chat. Joan’s greatest joy was doting on her grandchildren and she took any opportunity to spend time with them, support and encourage them in all of their endeavors.   She was a loving and emphatic woman, kind-hearted, and full of wisdom. She is already deeply missed and will live on in the memories of those who love her.

Joan is survived by her sisters, Marjorie Dixon and Nancy Vaillancourt; her children, Stephanie (Brent) Kerr , Jane (Bart) Dobbie, Virginia Dobbie, Peter Dobbie, and Mary (Mike) Storry; her grandchildren, Kristopher, Sarah (Henry), Kelsea (Roger), Elissa, Dylan, Taylor, Emily, and Autumn; great-granddaughter Charlotte; as well as her beloved cat Piper. Joan was predeceased by her parents and stepfather, her partner Robert Henry, and the father of her children Robert Dobbie.
