Obituary of Giovanna (Girardi) GALASSO

Giovanna (Girardi) Galasso rode a star to heaven on the evening of Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the age of 94 years. Surrounded by the love of her family and friends, Giovanna joined the love of her life, Luigi and her daughter Silvana.

Giovanna was born in S. Andrea Del Garigliano, Frosinone, Italy on May 2, 1925. She lived through famine, war and displacement and witnessed the atrocities of humanity.  She married her true love, and together they had four children. Giovanna’s most precious accomplishments were her children and for their futures, she made the passage to Canada. Giovanna was intelligent, strong, and protective.  Her main focus was always on the wellness of her family. Her dedication to them was evident, in the success of her family. She was a proud woman that could irritate and inspire you in a single sentence. In later life, she was diagnosed with dementia, which slowly took her away from her family, and eventually ended her time with us on earth.

Giovanna is survived by her beloved children, Giuseppina, Giuseppe, Carlo and their families; Silvana’s family; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her only sister, Antonia and her family.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 10:30 a.m.  Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North Calgary, AB).
