Obituary of Solange Marie (nee Couillard) BADER

Solange Bader of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2019 at the age of 89 years. Solange’s last few years were challenging health wise, so it is with bittersweet sadness that we bid farewell to our beloved mother and grandmother.  

Solange was born on March 18, 1930 in Lafond, AB.  She grew up in rural AB, boarded at The Sisters of Assumption Convent in St. Paul to attend high school, and then studied Secretarial Arts in Edmonton, leading to a long career of administrative support for a variety of people and industries. She took great pride in her skilled speed at taking shorthand and typing and was asked to teach these subjects at the college (which she declined).  Solange met her future husband, Marv while working at the Ft. Smith, NWT hospital.  Marv was a young RCMP Constable, also embarking on his lifelong career.  They were married in 1957, and had two children, Debbie and Wesley.  Solange held the supporting role for the family - always nurturing, caring, and making things better. She was very proud of her French-Canadian Heritage always taking the opportunity to speak French whenever she could.  Solange especially enjoyed the Christmas season, often sharing it with her sister Jeanne's family.  

Solange will forever be remembered and missed by her loving family. She is survived by her children Debbie (Pat) of Red Deer, Wes (Marlene) Bader of Calgary; and her four beloved grandchildren Bryce, Samantha, Lauren and Alex. She is also survived by her sister Jeanne Lepine.  Solange was predeceased by her lifelong love, her husband Marvin Bader, and her siblings Raymond Couillard, Fernand Couillard, Emma Tremblay, and Simone Bergeron.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing being held prior. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. Solange will be laid to rest at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
