Obituary of Alberta WEBSTER (nee Rogers)

April 20, 1925 – Calgary, Alberta
January 1, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Alberta (Bert) Webster of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at the age of 94 years.

Bert was born in Calgary, AB, in 1925, one of fourteen children, to John and Lenora Rogers. Her father, John, was the first plumber (JB Rogers Ltd.) in what was then a very young Calgary. Bert attended school at Cliff Bungalow in downtown Calgary. After her schooling, she became a hairdresser and set up shop in Hillhurst. In 1950, she married Bruce Webster and they had two daughters. Having been born and raised in Calgary, Bert had many long-time friends from the neighbourhoods they lived in – she enjoyed many hours of playing various card games but excelled in bridge and was known to be more than just a little bit competitive. Besides her love of bridge, Bert enjoyed bowling, golfing, volunteering at both the Chinook Nursing Home and the Rockyview Hospital gift shop and being a loving homemaker for Bruce and her two daughters. Once their family was grown, Bert and Bruce enjoyed travelling, especially ocean cruises with family and friends, and visited many different countries, making friends wherever they travelled. They also enjoyed North American trips by bus, quite often ending up in a Casino where Bert was known to play the occasional one armed bandit, many times coming out with more pennies than she had taken in.

Bert will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Bert is survived by her daughters, Bev (Al) Keeler and Judy (Peter) Crosby; sisters, Muriel (Cyril) Guriel, Lenora (Mike) Malone, and Patricia (Rance) Creasser; her brother, George (Pat) Rogers; grandchildren, Matthew (Roberta) Cadman, Ben (Aja) Cadman, Nathan (Lisa) Crosby, and Andrew (Chantel) Crosby; great-grandchildren, Abigail Cadman, Merik and Griffin Prairie Chicken, Ethan, Brooklyn and Miles Cadman, Nolan and Selina Crosby and Devin and Breanna Crosby; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bert was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Bruce in 2010.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Bert’s daughters wish to thank the family members, many friends, and care-givers who cared for their Mom over the past few years and especially over the last few months that were so difficult for a person who was fiercely independent.
