Obituary of Jo-Anne Margaret COOPER

August 8, 1952 - Calgary, Alberta

January 6, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Jo-Anne Cooper on Monday, January 6, 2020 at the age of 67 years after a valiant battle against cancer.

Jo-Anne was born at the General Hospital in Calgary and was welcomed by her parents, Lillian and Don Cooper, and big brothers, Don and Doug. Jo-Anne developed her lifelong love of reading from a young age, starting with frequent library books brought home by her mom, who had a hard time keeping up with the demand. Growing up, Jo-Anne was quite a tomboy and enjoyed playing sports with her big brothers and other neighbourhood kids.

Jo-Anne was always an excellent student and graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education degree in 1974 and a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1976. After graduating, she had a wonderful time backpacking through Europe and meeting relatives and friends. After returning from her trip, she started in the courier business, and she remained dedicated to the industry for over thirty years. She was hardworking and committed to her clients and colleagues and she developed many cherished friendships throughout the years.

Jo-Anne was an extremely devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend. We will miss her great sense of humour and funny stories, her endless knowledge and her witty personality. She had a great love of music (especially The Beatles) and was a wizard at doing crossword puzzles. She really enjoyed taking time each week to carefully choose her lottery numbers and was always hopeful to win the big jackpot one day.

Jo-Anne is survived by her brother Don (Marcy) Cooper, nieces Ashley (Jorge) Cooper-Masso and Kelsey (Brent) Cumberford; great-niece Emma Masso, and great-nephew Cooper Cumberford. Jo-Anne was predeceased by both of her parents and her brother Doug (Gayle) Cooper.

A private family service has already taken place. If friends so desire, donations may be made directly to Agape Hospice, www.agapehospice.ca/ahfunding.html. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Jo-Anne’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
