Obituary of Joan (nee Fairweather) KITCHEN

January 17, 1927 – Turner Valley, Alberta

January 12, 2020– Airdrie, Alberta

Joan Kitchen, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at the age of 92 years.

Joan was born in Calgary to Don and Lou Fairweather, she took her schooling in Turner Valley, AB. and graduated as a RN from the Calgary General Hospital.

Joan married Bev Kitchen, they lived in Calgary until 1959, moving to Coleville, SK for 9 years, then returning to Calgary until their move to Airdrie, AB in 2002 and later residing in the Airdrie Bethany Care Center.

Over the years Joan was involved in the Royal Canadian Legion, was a Girl Guide Captain, taught First Aid, canvassed for many charities like the Canadian Red Cross, Salvation Army, etc. She loved doing crafts and mastered many...like flower making and arrangement, paper tole, to mention a few. Joan enjoyed playing the organ, watching family play sports and joining in when she got the chance. Mum was always up for a game of catch in the backyard! Cards, puzzles and games were always a 'yes'! Reading was a big part of her life; for either information or pleasure. Joan and Bev loved to travel-first starting out with a car full; four kids, a dog, and all the tenting equipment, then later in their beloved "tent trailer" and finally a motorhome.

Joan was a devoted nurse, caring for friends and family whenever needed. In 1966 she returned to the hospital setting in Kerrobert, SK. Upon returning to Calgary, Joan did senior care and became Head Nurse at the Calgary Bethany; where she dearly loved her clients and 'her girls'. Joan retired in 1990. Even in later years while living at Airdrie Bethany, Joan would be there to help and instruct!

Joan so loved her family and all times spent with any of them. She was a "Special, wonderful Grandma"! (quote from the kids)
