Obituary of William John TODD

August 9, 1931 – Halifax, Nova Scotia

January 16, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Bill of Airdrie, AB, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2020 at the age of 88 years.

Born in Halifax, Bill left home at an early age to join the Royal Canadian Air Force in southern Ontario, where he met his first wife Lenore. They raised their family in Ottawa, Ontario, where Bill established himself as an astute, highly respected businessperson. He was the consummate angler, also enjoying hunting and cross-country skiing. His love of the great outdoors saw him long ago plant 150,000 tree seedlings on a much beloved property in the Ottawa Valley.

Eventually moving out west to be closer to his family in retirement, Bill, to his great delight, discovered west coast salmon and halibut fishing, enjoying over thirty years of hauling in the big ones with charter guide Jimmy of Port Hardy BC. Bill was a valued friend and mentor to young and old, providing us with wonderful life metaphors such as: “no hook in the water, no fish!”

Bill is survived by his beloved wife Gwen; his dearly loved children Sharon, Nancy (Robert), Bill (Nancy) and Janice; stepdaughters Debbie and Lori; as well as extended family members and friends.

Bill will be interred alongside his parents in his beloved Nova Scotia. In keeping with Bill’s intense dislike of the cold as well as his love of nature, there will be a celebration of his life when the days are warm, and the trees and plants have once again awakened and burst forth.

Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Bill’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

A tree will be planted in living memory of William Todd. McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Airdrie, 300 TOWERLANE DRIVE, AIRDRIE, AB. Telephone: 403-948-1100.
