Obituary of Elizabeth Maxwell KANE

February 5, 1945 – Sorn, Scotland

January 20, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Liz” Maxwell Kane (nee Gibson) on January 20, 2020 with her daughter by her side at Dulcina Hospice in Calgary, Alberta after a 5-year battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, at the age of 74 years.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years  Robert “Bertie” Kane; her loving children Robert (Connie), Brian (Laura), Michael (Tara), and Maggie (Wayne).  She was an adoring and adored grandmother to Andrew, Meghan (Jacob), Catherine (Andrew), Amanda, Emily and Owen; proud great-grandmother to Alivia, Gavin and a third due in a few weeks. She will be dearly missed by her sisters, Janet, Margaret (Jake), Christine (Alistair) and Sandra (William), her sister-in-law Moira; and her extended family in Scotland and the United States.

Liz was born the daughter of Margaret “Peggy” and John Robert “Bertie” Gibson on February 5, 1945 in Sorn, Scotland. Liz and Bertie were wed in Scotland in 1964 then immigrated to Canada in 1967 with their three sons, adding a daughter two years later. They settled in Two-Mountains, Quebec to raise their children. After 39 years they moved to western Canada where they split their time between Airdrie, Alberta in the summer and Tucson, Arizona in the winter.

Liz was never happier than when she was with her friends and family. Her door was always open to a steady stream of visitors. She also loved to travel, visiting friends and family across the globe.

She was a kind, caring woman who put others before herself and always made sure her family was well taken care of.
