Malcolm BERGFELDT

Obituary of Malcolm Ernest Peter BERGFELDT

February 12, 1933 – Wynyard, Saskatchewan

January 27, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Malcolm Bergfeldt passed away on January 27, 2020 at the age of 86 years.

Malcolm was born on the family farm in the Rushville district, February 12, 1933 to Ernest Peter and Edith (nee Barteluk). After attending the Harvard District School, he farmed the family homestead with his father. He married the love of his life, Doreen. While she taught school in Wynyard, he built the farm into a grain operation, growing wheat, barley, canola and occasionally, flax.

Those were busy years, farming, raising three children, and being active in the community. He was a member of the Kinsmen and then the Lions Club. For many years he served faithfully as an elected councillor in the Rural Municipality of Elfros. After he and Doreen moved to Airdrie, Alberta, he remained with the Lions Club, served as a director of Nose Creek Valley Museum Society, and worked with the local Probis Club. The Lions Club International presented him with the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship for his humanitarian work, an honour of which he was very proud.

Malcolm and Doreen travelled the world together, visiting most of the US, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and French Polynesia. In later years they wintered in Yuma, Arizona with a wide circle of friends.

Malcolm was predeceased by Doreen in 2016, but is survived by their daughters, Wendy (Donald) of Cape Breton, Cheryl of Calgary and Heather (Cam) of Burnaby; and grandchildren Mal, Tait, Kate and Sarah. He is also survived by many in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
