Doreen PATTON (nee Moser)

Obituary of Doreen PATTON (nee Moser)

April 17, 1932 – Maple Creek, Saskatchewan
February 4, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

After 87 years, Doreen Patton passed away and has joined her husband, Lloyd and her parents John and Augusta Moser. Many said she would be late for her own funeral but she eventually lost the battle with congestive heart failure and left us peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, February 4, 2020.

Doreen was born in Maple Creek and eventually ended up in Medicine Hat where she spent most of her adult life, marrying Lloyd Patton and starting an accounting business. She was the office manager, keeping Lloyd busy with her highly organized filing system. Papers were stacked a foot deep on her desk, ranging from high priority on top, to we’ll never get to these on the bottom. Coincidentally, the same filing system was used at home.

Doreen’s family meant everything to her. She loved, and was very proud of her boys, Ed and Mark. There are many memories of her shuttling them to sports, music lessons, weekends at the Elkwater cabin, and annual camping and ski trips.

She adored her grandchildren, Jonas, Aaron and Nathan. She spent many summers down in Seattle with Ed’s family helping out and hanging out. She wasn’t much into flying so she spent many long trips driving from Calgary to Seattle, spending quality time with Mark on the way. Most of the trips went smoothly with the border guards, except one, where some smooth talking was required to allow her entry into the USA, to avoid a quick return trip back to Calgary.

Her second love was her dogs, Chance and Caesar, who were spoiled at every drive in restaurant that they frequently visited. In her final years her companions were Mark and Diane’s dogs, spending time with them, enjoying the sunset from her home on the acreage. As many of you know sunrises were not something Doreen was too familiar with.

Mom’s third love was sugar, but exercise - not so much. She loved eating out, often taking family out for dinner. It was rare if you could leave a restaurant without experiencing the desserts. Often one was not enough. And of course, not many meals were experienced without her glass (or two or three) of scotch.

Doreen came from a large family of eight siblings. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters Deloris and Meryle, and her brother Dennis. She will now be joining her other brothers, Johnny, Arnold, Don and Raymond.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow at the home of Mark and Diane Patton.
