Obituary of Nicola VACCARO

November 16, 1933 - San Martino di Finita,
Cosenza, Calabria, Italy
February 3, 2020 - Calgary, Alberta, Canada

With great sadness we announce that our beloved father Nicola Vaccaro passed away peacefully, in his sleep on Monday, February 3, 2020.

Living in San Martino di Finita, where jobs were few, Nick learned to be a hard worker doing many different jobs. It was while he was doing an electrical job, that he met his future wife, Rosaria. After waiting for her immigration papers to go through, they would marry in 1959. In 1962, along with his wife, Nick made his way to Calgary, AB, where he started his lifelong work in the Tile industry, working mainly for Flesher Marble & Tile for forty years. His pride was the Terrazzo and marble he had become specialized in making - especially the time capsule in Chinook Centre and The Burns building downtown. He was also liked by the young guys he worked with and was happy to help train them at work or at Red Deer College. An avid sports enthusiast he never missed a Stampeder or Flames game. Nick was a kind, cool, quiet man who loved all those he met and who was loved in return, especially by his wife children, and immediate and extended family.

Nicola is survived by his three children, Pasqualino, Elena and Manuel of Calgary; his two grandchildren, Valentina and Victoria; his brother Alfredo (Marivi) and two sisters, Teresa (Francesco) and Carmelina; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Nicola was predeceased by his adored wife Rosaria Orestina, his parents, Pasquale and Divina; as well as his sister Rosa.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church (321 – 90th Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 10:30 a.m.
