Penny BISSONETTE

Obituary of Penny Denise BISSONETTE

August 20, 1960 – Turner Valley, Alberta

February 9, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Penny Bissonette, beloved wife of Don Bissonette of Langdon, AB, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the age of 59 years.

Penny lived without regrets. While an introvert who spent countless hours with a book and a cup of tea, she also formed deep friendships over shared work and interests. She often enjoyed a pint of beer or glass of wine with her husband, family, co-workers, neighbors and their children. With her no nonsense life view, she tackled any challenge, whether it was organizing a book collection, or a cross-country move. She believed in and demonstrated the power of education. She graduated college as a mature student to become a library technician. She did all of this as a young mother.  She was dedicated to lifelong learning. Penny worked in the public education sector as an attendance secretary, and later as a senior business analyst at Bow Valley College. After being diagnosed with cancer, she faced her illness head-on. Being the planner that she was, she prepared for what would come. During her illness she made room for friends and family to visit with words of encouragement and finally to say good-bye. She died as she lived.

Penny is survived by her husband of forty-two years, Don Bissonette; daughters, Reality (Matt), Sarah (Jeremy) and grandchildren, Mairi, Sydney, Danielle, Evelyn, James and Sylvia. She is also survived by her father, Barry Dylke; her siblings, Clifford (Jane), Cathy, Glenda (Scott) and Christopher (Darin); as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family both in Alberta and Ontario. Penny is predeceased by her mother, Sheila Dylke.
