Obituary of Ethel (Effie) Louise GOLDRING (nee Barton)

April 30, 1955 – Calgary, Alberta
February 7, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Our beautiful Ethel (Effie) Louise Goldring of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020, at the age of 64 years.

Effie was born in Calgary, AB. She was the second of seven children born to Cathy and Harold Barton on April 30, 1955.

Effie attended Cochrane High School where she graduated in 1973, following this she set out and began creating her family with two beautiful boys. As her boys grew, she decided to further her education and completed her degree in Accounting.

Over the next years she focused on her family. “Friends are the family we get to choose for ourselves,” was one of her favorite quotes, and while raising her two boys on her own, she was surrounded by close friends. Effie found Christmas to be her goldmine for her passion for baking and cooking, spending countless hours preparing for her family and friends. Dinners with Effie had an open-door policy for all to enjoy (and for good reason as she always cooked for an army).

On October 17, 2007, Effie became a Nana to the first of what is now five grandchildren. She loved to spend time with her grandson, teaching him everything he wanted to learn, especially how to cook and bake. She always had an incredible upbeat love for life and took care of her family and friends with fierce love and loyalty. Effie was a woman of many interests she loved reading, music, baking, herbology, and gemstones. She collected many things such as Santas, coins, unicorns, and if it was old and had a history she couldn’t resist. She always saw the beauty in plants, woodwork and stones. Effie was an incredible woman with a simple, kind, and generous heart. She loved to share her knowledge with anyone who wanted to learn. Her desire to learn and teach, she believed came from her father Harold. Effie did nothing halfway. She loved animals and babies most in the world: she loved that they loved purely and without judgment.

Effie is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, James and Patricia Goldring of Calgary, AB, and William Goldring of Calgary, AB; her surrogate daughter and son-in-law, Roxie and Kevin Anderson of Calgary, AB; five grandchildren, Sam, Kaylen, Talon, Lucas, and Lana; and her dog Sara.
Effie is also survived by her two brothers and sister-in-law, Harold and Lou Barton, of Mornville, AB, and Jack Barton of Irricana, AB;
two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Bob Brown of Rock Hill SC, Betty and Elvin Carroll of Okotoks, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Effie was predeceased by her parents, Cathy and Harold Barton, her sister Peggie Lattery, her brother Lester Barton, and her dog Prince.
