Obituary of Kostas ASTRAVAS

October 14, 1922 – Galvokai, Lithuania
February 17, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Kostas (Ken) Astravas of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, February 17, 2020 at the age of 97.

Kostas was born in Lithuania on October 14, 1922. Immigrated to Toronto, and married Petronela (Nellie) Astravas. A chemical engineer, University of Toronto Engineering (5T4) graduate (BEng (Chem), M.Sc.Eng), his profession took him around the world to South Korea, Indonesia, Kuwait, Algeria, Iran, Libya, Yemen, and Lithuania to name a few.  He was a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists (APEGGA); American Institute of Chemical Engineers. An avid outdoorsman, adventurer, cyclist, skier, hiker, traveller, photographer and storyteller, there was never a shortage of laughs, talk about politics or a history lesson with him.

Kostas is survived by his loving and caring wife Nellie Astravas, and two daughters he was very proud of, Rutha and Zita (Michael).

Kostas was predeceased by his three sisters in Lithuanian and brother in the US.
