Obituary of Linda Katherine MURRAY

November 2, 1934 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
March 11, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Linda Murray of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at the age of 85.

Loved by all who knew her, gracious and generous to a fault, Linda was a treasured spouse, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Linda was born in Winnipeg on November 2, 1934, to Dorothy (nee Clark) and Lloyd Hignell. With both parents dead by the time she was twelve, Linda and her sister Helen Ruth were raised by their older sibling Virginia, known as Diddy, and her husband Jim Tate. After graduating from Kelvin High School, Linda attended the University of Manitoba, and trained as an RN at the Winnipeg General Hospital, leading to a fulfilling 30-year career as a labour and delivery nurse. It was as a cast member of “Merrie England” at the U of M that Linda met the love her life, Glen, launching a 63-year love affair that produced, among other things, three children to which she and Glen devoted themselves. Following Glen’s work from Winnipeg to Calgary, Linda embraced the outdoors, taking up snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and canoeing, as well as exercising her fiercely competitive nature on the tennis court and at the contract bridge table. Upon retiring, Linda and Glen threw themselves into travelling the globe, caring for their grandkids at the cabin on Moyie Lake, and volunteering year after year for the Calgary International Children’s Festival and elsewhere. Linda was a vibrant and loving spirit who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Linda is survived by her three children, Don and his wife Debbie, Jane and her partner Darren, and Scott and his partner D.A; her grandchildren, Chad (Terri Pekrul), Sean, Nicole (Mark Melanson), Robyn, and Kelsey; and great-grandson Hunter; and by her brother-in-law Don Murray, as well as many nieces and nephews.
