Robert (Bob) KOK

Obituary of Robert (Bob) Henk KOK

April, 1940 – Heng’elo Overysel, Holland

March, 2020 - Calgary, Alberta

Robert Kok, known by many as Bob, will be greeted in heaven with open arms by the love of his life Gail, his family and great friends that have passed before him.

Robert spent much of his life as an active member of the Canadian Navy, then as a volunteer officer for Captain Jackson, Navy Cadet Corps. Robert made quite an impact with the Cadets who looked up to him and as one cadet said, “He spent countless hours on parade with us, learning the nuances of naval lore and tradition and he was that one man who dismissed us off the parade square knowing that we all felt loved, heard and understood. We didn’t leave to go home feeling less than incredible. He must know that many of us would have ended up in a different place in life without him. He led us well and did it with his heart.” - Croal, L. Robert was also a Correctional Peace Officer with the Government of Alberta until his retirement. He made many friends and was respectful to those in his care.

Robert was an amazing husband to Gail, wonderful father to Connie, Morris, Sharlene, and Todd; loving grandfather to Cassandra (Jason), Laura, Elias and Mitchell; thoughtful brother to Joyce (Ned), and George (Susan); and caring uncle to Joe and Lance.

To those at the Cedars Villa Calgary that helped us care for our father up until his passing, Kay, Richard, Jane, and Barb just to mention a few – he appreciated your kindness and you cared for him which we will forever be grateful, thank you for your compassion.

We love you and will miss you Dad; you will forever be in our hearts until we meet again…

Immortality

I am standing upon the seashore, a ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.  She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to meet each other.  Then someone at my side says, “There! She’s gone!” Gone where?

Gone from my sight, that is all.  She is just as large in the mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side, and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of her destination.  Her diminished size is in me, and not in her. And just at that moment, when someone at my side says, “There! She’s gone!”

There are other eyes that are watching for her coming and other voices ready to take up the

glad shout, “Here she comes!”
