Obituary of Brian PETERS

May 14, 1953 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
March 30, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

John Brian Peters went home to is Lord and Saviour on Monday, March 30, 2020 at the age of 66 years.

Brian was born on May 14, 1953, the only son of Henry and Olga Peters. His early years were spent in Dundurn and Mennon, SK, and graduating High School in Hepburn, SK. Brian spent summers and holidays working for farmers – hauling bales, fencing, building corrals, and other jobs as needed – and riding the PFRA pastures. He was a trustworthy worker and made many lasting friendships. Church and Canadian Sunday School Mission camps were very important in his growing up years. At the age of seven, he realized his sin and trusted in Jesus Christ as Saviour (Rom. 6:23). After high school, Brian attended Millar College of the Bible where he was grounded in God’s Word. He was very involved in music – singing in a male quartet and choirs. Brian also taught Child Evangelical Fellowship Five Day Clubs. After his graduation, the quartet went on a mission trip to Austria and Greece. Brian also graduated from Winnipeg Bible College (now Providence University College and Theological Seminary) with a B. Religious Education with a major in theology. While there, he helped out at Anola Baptist Church and later became their pastor. Brian met Beatrice Fehr at Millar and they were married on August 1, 1975. They were blessed with three children, John Brent, Beckie Lynn, and Barry Kurt. A highlight in their early ministry was the beginning of an AWANA club in both Anola, MB and at the Christian Fellowship Chapel in Winnipeg, MB. Many lasting friendships were made there. Sadly, Brian’s public full-time ministry was cut short when serious hearing loss rendered it difficult to continue his work. They moved the family from Dufresne, MB to Wymark, SK, and he began working at Rem Manufacturing in Swift Current. Later, he also farmed. He loved working with his hands and always had grand projects on the go. He designed and built a farm shop, grain bins, and bin crane, among other things. All the while, he was involved as a speaker at AWANA Council Time, as well as pulpit supply. In the spring of 2012, Brian suffered a massive stroke which sadly put an end to many of the things he had enjoyed. In his words, “Two strokes knocked...him right flat, he lost everything, was not allowed to do anything, only clutch desperately to a view of heaven.” Brian and Beatrice moved to Calgary in the fall of 2013 to be closer to family. Since December 2015, he has been a resident at Father Lacombe Care Centre where he has been very well cared for.

Besides his loving wife, Beatrice, Brian leaves to rejoice his celebration in heaven, his children, Brent (Vicki), Beckie (Karl), and Barry (Janice); and grandchildren, Denali, Sophia, Veronika, Kaylie, Kian, Korin, Carson, Emily, Chloe, and Garret. He is also survived by his sisters, Alice, Mildred, and Delphine (Bruce); sisters-in-law, Laverne, Lorraine (David), Marian (Don), and Emily (Marc); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Olga Peters; his parents-in-law, Isaac and Elma Fehr; and granddaughter, Jessa Cherie Edler.
