Condolences
To Elsie Pytel's Family,
Although saddened to read in today's Calgary Herald of Elsie's passing from covid-19, I am also very grateful to have known such a kind and gracious woman. We both belonged to the same church where we volunteered and became friends. Once when I thanked Elsie for giving such an inspiring talk based on Dr. Joan Borysenko's book, "Pocketful of Miracles", she later presented me with her book, in which she wrote: "Enjoy this booklet. It has helped me a great deal, and is a wonderful reference", and signed it "With love and Light." I have truly appreciated this book for a great many years, as it has proved to be very helpful. Another time, when Elsie arrived at church one winter's day looking so attractive in a hand knitted scarf (several feet long!) and a matching tuque, and I complimented her on her stylish ensemble, she asked me if I'd like a matching set as well, just for the price of the wool! And for only $10 I have been the lucky owner of her handwork, a stunning mauve scarf (2 yards, 2 feet long!) and tuque, knit to fit! (Elsie said that scarves were always too short, something I never realized until I received her scarf.) Elsie also inspired my husband and me to join a ballroom dance club which we have enjoyed for many years now, up until the current lockdown situation. Wherever Elsie is now, I'm sure she's still dancing!
With sympathy and very best wishes during this difficult time,
Marlene Harris
