Obituary of Mariam (nee Mammen) JACOB

Mariam Jacob, wife of the Late Parakattil Idiculla Jacob, passed away at home, peacefully in her sleep in the early hours on Friday, May 15, 2020, at the age of 105.

She was born in Kerala, India on July 4, 1914, to Alumoottil Abraham Mammen and Saramma Mammen. She was the oldest of six siblings - two brothers and four sisters. After her husband’s death, she migrated to Canada in the early seventies and lived with her daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Thakkar and son-in-law Dr. Chhotalal Thakkar in Calgary. She lived a very active life participating in many social, community and religious activities and was a source of inspiration, help and encouragement to many who needed it.

Mariam is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth and Sarah (the Late Handley Pynumoottil George); her grandchildren, Ranjini, Roshini, David and Michael; her great-grandchildren, Rohan, Sarisha, Rohit, Paige, Maya, Joel, Steven and Aidan; and many nieces and nephews around the world.

Mariam was a powerful woman of God, strong in faith and prayer. It can be truly said of her: “I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race...” (2 Tim.4:7), and the Lord will reply, “Well done, Thou good and faithful servant...” (Matt.25:23).

A Private Funeral Service will be held at Faith Calgary with graveside service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
