Obituary of Dale ARCHIBALD

August 30, 1955 – Truro, Nova Scotia
May 31, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It’s with profound sadness that the family of Dale Archibald, retired constable, announce his passing on May 31, 2020.

Dale was born on August 30, 1955 and raised on a farm in Truro, Nova Scotia. From the very start, his big blue eyes were interested in anything and everything, and you could get absolutely nothing past him. His childhood was spent getting into trouble around the farm, proudly riding the tractor that his granddad helped him maintain, picking blueberries and strawberries, and of course, milking the cows at the crack of dawn every morning.

When he became old enough to get his license, his passion for cars really began to develop. He would order custom parts and tinker with the engine for hours to ensure it was the shiniest, fastest, most souped-up up Chevy Nova that he would proudly drive around town – you could hear him coming from a mile away. He made countless road trips through to New York, Florida, Nashville, and Memphis with his buddies before trading in his four wheels for his motorcycle. With that, he set his sights for Calgary to join the Calgary Police Service in 1981 (working with them for 27 years) and eventually met and married the love of his life.

Considering being dealt an unlucky hand when it came to his health, he beat the odds on multiple occasions, and as one of his doctors proclaimed “Dale you are a man with many lives.” One of many feats was being one of the first successful bone marrow transplants in Canada, paving the way for cancer treatments and research today.

He rolled with the punches, was tough as nails, and had a contagious zest for life and adventures. With his family he spent years on the ski hill, hiking the Rocky Mountains, and exploring his second home in the great outdoors. He would light up a room and made everything from lobster boils to family games night an exciting affair.

Dale was a wonderful loving husband and father, and will be dearly missed by his wife of 38 years, Susan and his daughter Kristy. He is also survived by his close in-laws, Margie Cassidy, Barrie and Arlene Cassidy, and nieces and nephews, Ryan Cassidy (Jessica + son Logan), Tom Cassidy (Kathryn), and Diane Cassidy (Jack). Also, by his Nova Scotian siblings, Janice Gero (John), Wayne Archibald (Jenny), Karen Morrell (Jamie), Kevin Archibald (Margo).

He was predeceased by his parents, Elwyn and Greta Archibald and his father-in-law, James Cassidy.

A small celebration of Dale’s life with close family and friends will be taking place on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. Due to COVID there will be no reception. A private family interment will take place following the ceremony at Queen’s Park Cemetery.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to  be made to Canadian Blood Services, 200 Barclay Parade SW Unit #10, Telephone: 1-888-2-DONATE , www.give.blood.ca. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Dale’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

The family wishes to thank the many nurses and doctors who cared for Dale through the years, particularly Dr. James Russell (retired). They would also like to thank those who take the time to donate blood, a lifeline that gave Dale the strength to conquer the many different hardships that came his way health-wise.

In living memory of Dale Archibald, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE NW, CALGARY, AB T3G 2T3,   Telephone: 403-241-0044.
