June 8, 2020 – Cochrane, Alberta

Douglas (Doug) James Stephens of Cochrane, AB, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2020 at the age of 62 years.

Doug was born in Calgary, AB, on July 27, 1957. He moved to Lethbridge, AB, in 1966 as his father was transferred there as an AGT employee.

Growing up Doug enjoyed playing many sports, including hockey, baseball , basketball, and his biggest passion, lacrosse.  He was also an avid outdoor enthusiast and when he wasn’t playing minor sports, his weekends were spent camping and fishing with his family.
Doug had his favorite pro sports teams such as the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Toronto Blue Jays.  He shared a deep bond with his late son Dougie in regards to baseball and they spent countless hours in the backyard, glove and ball in hand, tailoring Dougie’s skills.

Doug grew up a “Northsider” in Lethbridge where he graduated from Winston Churchill High School in 1975. Upon graduating Doug’s career was spent working with and contracting for Telus, formerly known as AGT.  Soon he was dealing with the forefront of new technology where he travelled the world, specializing in fibre optics.

Doug’s most memorable vacations saw him packing up his family and hightailing it out of Alberta to Christina Lake, BC. This was his destination of choice. His parents, Howard and Eleanor Stephens owned property at Christina Lake. So many good times were spent there with friends and family.

Doug will be most remembered for his deep devotion to his friends and family, and his attention to detail in regard to work.  No matter where his mindset was at the time, you could always rely on Doug’s help if needed.

Doug is survived by his three brothers and their families: Dan and Ruth Stephens and their children, Jesse, Noelle, and Danielle; Dave and Diana Stephens and their children, Jordie and Sara; and Dean and Lisa Stephens and their children, Clay and Tate. Doug is predeceased by his parents, Howard and Eleanor Stephens, and his son Dougie.
