Audrey DENZEL

Obituary of Audrey Joyce DENZEL

June 7, 1938 – Bellevue, Alberta
May 30, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Audrey Denzel (nee Zavada), widow of late Peter Denzel of Calgary, AB passed away suddenly at Signal Point Care Facility on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at the age of 81 years.

Audrey was born in the urban community of Bellevue in the Rocky Mountains of the Crowsnest Pass in Southwest Alberta, Canada on June 7th, 1938.

Audrey loved her time in the Crowsnest Pass spending her early years thriving at the local School Hall, playing around the family’s General Store and gas station in Bellevue, and all other endeavours involving her sister Shirley and close cousins Vivian and Leonard.

In 1949, Audrey moved to Calgary, AB along with the evolving family business and resided in Calgary ever since.  Audrey’s enthusiasm for helping others blossomed into a career as a Nurse.  Her loving and caring nature would be found on many Mother & Baby wards throughout the city hospitals over her career, which brought her much happiness and joy.

In 1968, Audrey met her true love Peter Denzel at the German Canadian Club of Calgary.  Their relationship quickly blossomed, and they married on November 29th, 1969.

Audrey’s passion and enjoyment were the time spent with family and watching those around her grow up and spread their wings.  She lived for each family outing, get together, and every special moment shared along the way. Family time included many trips to British Columbia to visit her sister Shirley’s family and the precious time spent with her dearly beloved niece Kim and nephew Darrell.  She cherished the day Robert and Monique got married and when she could finally be called ‘Oma’ and watch her granddaughter Milène grow and prosper.  Oma enjoyed many crafts, cooking Ukrainian recipes, watching hockey, and spoiling family dogs Cindy, Cammie, and Teddy.  Her sense of humor, loving nature, and all that she sacrificed will never be forgotten. Oma gave all to her family and will be dearly missed.

Audrey is survived by her only son and daughter-in-law, Robert Denzel and Monique D’Aoust; and grandchild Milène Denzel, all of Calgary, her niece and her husband Kim and Maher Lammam and great-nephew Tyler Lammam, of Port Moody BC, nephew Darrell Schmidt of Delta BC, brother-in-law Egon Schmidt, of Delta BC, and her cousin Leonard Swischuk and wife Jane Swischuk of Galveston, Texas, U.S.A.  Audrey was predeceased by her husband Peter Denzel, her parents William and Anne Zavada, her sister Shirley Schmidt, and cousin Vivian Bullen.
