It is with great sadness that we announce that on Sunday, June 21, 2020, our mother, Dolly Adharsingh of Calgary, AB, previously of Trinidad & Tobago passed away after struggling with dementia for a number of years.

Upon the death of her husband, Dolly moved to Caracas, Venezuela with her four children in 1969. She joined the United Christian Church in Caracas and was an active member.

In 1974 Dolly relocated to Calgary from Caracas, Venezuela to be closer to her daughter Cynthia. Dolly volunteered at The Calgary General Hospital and the Kerby Centre. She was a member of the choir at Grace Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Namespetro (Gordon) of Mossbank, SK, and Anne Adharsingh of Calgary; six grandchildren, Nerissa Smith (Sheldon) of Saskatoon, Allison Bitu, Beverly Opyrchal (Andrew),  Shauna Leaney (Ayden Henn) of Calgary, Aaron Leaney of Montreal, and Denisa Valasquez Adharsingh of Caracas, Venezuela; fourteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Irene Sookoo, brother Samuel Bitu (Tara Maturasingh) of Trinidad, as well as several nieces and nephews in Trinidad and Canada.

In addition to her husband Russell Adharsingh, she was predeceased by her two sons, Denny Adharsingh and Selwyn Adharsingh, her three grandchildren, Desiree Valasquez Adharsingh, Alejandro Valasquez Adharsingh, and Nelson Valasquez Adharsingh; and her brother Sonny Bitu.

Dolly loved to travel back and forth to Venezuela, Trinidad and Canada. Her life was well-lived and she was very independent. Let’s not forget that she loved cats.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Wentworth Manor in Calgary for their care during the time our mother lived there, and for keeping their entire seniors’ safe during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
