Obituary of Paul Edward MILLER

November 20, 1950 – Elmsdale, Nova Scotia March 13, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta Paul beloved husband of Janet Marie Miller (nee Morrison) of Calgary, AB, passed away on March 13, 2018 at the age of 67 years. Paul was the fourth child of Robert and Bertha Miller. He grew up on a poultry farm and attended the old two-room school by the Shubenacadie River. He enjoyed many happy summer afternoons diving in the river at the old swimming hole with his childhood friends. He particularly enjoyed outings with his father, fishing for trout in the spring and hunting for partridge in the early fall. He graduated from Dalhousie University with his BSc in geology. He took great pride in his geology career which saw him working in Nova Scotia, many offshore east coast oil rigs as well as several international contracts. In 1989, with dreams of a brighter future for his family of five, he moved everyone to Calgary with no job offer in hand. Through hard work and great determination he built a very successful career and was still working as VP in Exploration and Business Development at the time of his death. Paul was a passionate scientist who loved all aspects of his work. He was well known for his tremendous sense of humour, and could be counted on to find the bright side of any difficult situation. Paul found great joy in the outdoors, hiking our Rockies, skiing, snowshoeing and golfing. His competitiveness, mostly with himself, showed in the training and running of many marathons. The pinnacle of those had to be his six completed Boston marathons and he and Janet were currently training for their seventh together. Most of all his love for his family, watching them grow and spending one on one time with his grandkids filled his heart. Besides his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Janet, Paul is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Carissa, Greg and Kristin and Tim and Jodi; as well as seven wonderful grandchildren, Tristan, Alina, Dreden, Hayden, Landen, Kale and Isaac; a brother Doug in Dartmouth NS; brother and sister-in-law, Norm and Ann in Calgary; and sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Gerald in Surrey BC; and several nephews and a niece. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
