Obituary of Biva Rani CHOWDHURY

July 12, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

On the morning of July 12, 2020, we sadly lost our beloved mother and grandmother. Biva Rani Chowdhury, mother of eight, grandmother of eleven and great -grandmother of seven, passed away at the age of 90.

Mrs. Chowdhury was born in what is now Bangladesh on January 1st, 1930 to Chondrodoy Guha Roy and Binodini Guha Roy. She was the youngest of four brothers and three sisters.

She married the late Ashoke Chandra Narayan Chowdhury and over the years raised two daughters the late Swapna Sen (Subrata Sen) and Uma Kar (Kanti Kar), and six sons, Budhadeb Chowdhury (Uma Chowdhury), Amlan Chowdhury (Suvra Chowdhury), Ashim Chowdhury (Vaswati Chowdhury), Anupam Chowdhury (Soma Chowdhury), Arijit Chowdhury (Anindita Chowdhury), Avijit Chowdhury (Avanti Chowdhury); Out of those children, have come eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She moved to Canada from India in 1981 at the age of 51 with her husband and four youngest sons. While living in Calgary for almost 40 years, she enjoyed music and Bengali and Hindi movies, attending community events, travelling with family, cooking, knitting and sewing.

Many thanks to the staff at the Age Care Seton in Calgary. They provided wonderful care, constant support, and never failed to keep us informed on a daily basis. No small task during the challenge the pandemic presented for front line workers. We will forever be grateful to you all.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
