Obituary of Tommy CHIK

August 1, 1954 - Kowloon, Hong Kong 
July 5, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness we announce that Tommy Chik, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at the age of 65 years. 

He was born August 1, 1954 in Kowloon, Hong Kong and later immigrated to Canada as a teenager. He moved to Medicine Hat where he met his wife of forty-five years, Brenda. Tom and Brenda moved several times but eventually settled in Calgary where they raised their two daughters.   

He was very devoted to his career at Tree of Life, and was proud of his accomplishments. He saw the company evolve through his twenty-seven years of service and dedication, and during that time he established many friendships with colleagues. 

Tom was a loving and dedicated father and husband who cared deeply about his family, and loved ones. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, and spending time at their lake property on the Old Man River. Tom loved to make people laugh and always seemed to be the centre of attention whether he wanted to be or not. His sense of humour and confident personality will be greatly missed by anyone who knew him. 

Tom was also a huge animal lover and dedicated animal advocate. He loved to cuddle his rescue dogs and cat, and was always caught sneaking them treats or scraps off his plate. He volunteered at numerous fundraising functions for Alley Cats Rescue, and Shark Fin Free Calgary, and often supported other local and international animal and environmental charities through donations and advocacy.

Tom is survived by his wife Brenda; his daughters, Tamara Barnes (Brian) and Jennifer Chik (Bob); his sister Amy Chik (Bill); numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephew. Tom was predeceased by his mother Fung Chun Sek, Father Sia Kuen Chik, mother-in-law Rose Stotz, and father-in-law Jack Stotz. 

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services in honour of Tom will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.  Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
