Obituary of Bertrand (Bert) GAGNE

June 18, 1931 - Matane, Quebec

August 3, 2020 - Calgary, Alberta

Bert Gagné, beloved husband of Anne (nee Stromquist) of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2020 at the age of 89 years.

Bert was born in Matane, Quebec, and was stationed in Alberta while serving in the RCAF, where he met Anne.  They were married in 1954, celebrating 65 years of married life in 2019.

Bert was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.  He celebrated 50 years of knighthood in 2008.  Bert worked as an accountant from 1972-1992 in Edmonton and Calgary.  He was known for his dedication to maintaining impeccable books.

Bert was an active member of St. Thomas More Parish in Calgary, and sang in the choir for many years.  People will remember Bert for his love of card games, his devotion to family and his open-hearted hospitality.Bert was a good man, and a great father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.  He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Bert is survived by his wife Anne and all seven of their children; Marie-Jeanne Davie (Rolland), Colette Acheson, Denise Gagné Williamson (Gordon), Bernadette Gagné (Fran MacTaggart), Paul Gagné, Roger Gagné, and Louise Lennax.  He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Bert was predeceased by his granddaughter Robin Davie in 2009.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on  Sunday,  August 9, 2020 from 2:00  to 4:30 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church (15 Templebow Road N.E., Calgary, AB) on Monday, August 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.  Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Bert’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
