Obituary of Herta Marie KLANN

Herta Marie Klann of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020 at the age of 91 years.

Herta Klann was born in St. Peter in der Au to Michael Altrichter and Magdalena Biber-Schafferl on July 17, 1929 the eldest of eighteen siblings. Herta was an adventurer at heart. She earned a diploma in nursing from Wilhelminenspital, Vienna and worked for a short while before adventure took her on a boat to Canada. There she met she met and married Rudolf Klann. She remained a resident of Calgary for the rest of her life. She worked as a nurse at the Holy Cross Hospital for many years in NICU and pediatrics. She enjoyed hiking and traveling with Rudolf, her husband and Roland her son, and later Roland’s family and many friends. In the last few years, she has spent much time traveling to BC and Austria/Germany, visiting family and friends. She loved going out shopping, serving, and sharing with friends, family, and those she met along her life’s journey.

Herta is survived by her son, Roland Klann (Ruth) of Coquitlam, BC, grandchildren, David Klann (Kristie Burkett) of Red Deer, AB, Natalie Klann of Kamloops, BC, Erick Klann of Coquitlam., BC, Kyle McInnis of Port Moody, BC,; and great-granddaughter, Aubrey Burkett-Klann of Red Deer, AB. Herta is also survived by many siblings, nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends in Austria, Germany, and Canada. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rudolf Klann, her parents, and various siblings in Austria.

Herta’s wishes were to donate her body to the University of Calgary for research like the better understanding of Crohn’s Disease, which was the reason for the complications that led to her death. A Celebration of Herta’s Life will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church (66 – 7 Street NE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Herta’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
