Obituary of Heather Claire PEIRCE

February 14, 1939 – Winnipeg, Manitoba February 26, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta Heather Peirce, of Calgary, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018 at the age of 79 years. Heather was born and raised in Winnipeg, she attended West Kildonan Collegiate and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree and Certificate of Education at the University of Manitoba. She had a fulfilling and successful career as a teacher, retiring in 2000. Heather and Allan married in Winnipeg on December 16, 1961. Throughout the years, they also lived in London, Toronto and Cambridge, ON, and Lethbridge, AB, finally settling in Calgary in 1979. Heather was heavily involved in her church, McDougall United, where she sang in choirs and performed with the handbell group. She was a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) and participated in many activities with the group. She also enjoyed curling from a young age. She and Allan enjoyed travelling together to England, Europe, Mexico, Cuba and Southeast Asia. Later in life, she visited her brother and sister-in-law in Cancun, Mexico each year to celebrate her birthday. Heather loved life and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend who loved to sing, play the piano, garden, read, attend the theatre, cook and bake. Heather is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Alicia; daughter and son-in-law, Shelagh and Mark; three grandchildren, Colby, Samuel and Isobel; and brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Nellie. She was predeceased by her husband Allan; and parents William Gordon and Kathleen Grace McKelvey. Funeral Services will be held at McDougall United Church (8516 Athabasca Street S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the church.
