Obituary of Dolores Vivian QUINLAN

June 5, 1929 - Milo, Alberta
August 2, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Dory was born on June 5, 1929 in Milo, Alberta and died after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease on August 2, 2020 in Calgary Alberta. She left this world as she lived it, with compassion, gentleness, and grace.

Dory started out life in the depression era and was adopted at 7 years old along with her 5 year old brother to a farm family where she learned her work ethic. When she met Don Quinlan, she knew she had found her soul mate. They were married for 54 years until his death in 2004. Dory volunteered at many Coronation and Calgary agencies including CNIB, the Epilepsy Association, several Nursing Centres, and St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank. She won many awards for volunteering throughout the years. Her work included the Alberta Legislature and a Calgary lab. Dory believed the things she did to make life less stressful for others was one of the most important works of her life.  She was known for her hospitality.  Many people came to stay for one, two or three years at a time and she thought of them as her “kids”. The spare bedroom was rarely empty for long to family or friend.

Dory is survived by her son Conn (Diana) and sister-in-law Celeste; She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and their families, too numerous to mention.

She was pre-deceased by her loving husband Donald, daughter Carleen, and brother Jack.

Dory was a godly woman, courageous, hard-working, determined, and would not say a bad word about anyone. Many people have described her as “my second mother”.

The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Marguerite’s Manor for treating Mom so gently, caringly and with great respect.

As an expression of sympathy, if you so desire, you may do so with a donation to CNIB or the Calgary Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Dory’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
