Obituary of Margaret Mary LEARMONT

November 9, 1928 – Birmingham, England
August 3, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Margaret passed away suddenly on August 3, 2020 at the age of 91. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Jim, her son Andrew and daughter Penelope. She was predeceased by her daughter Helen in 2005.

Margaret was born and spent her youth in Birmingham, England. She met Jim on her 21st birthday and together they embarked on a life full of rich experience, living in Guyana, South America; Bakersfield, CA; New Orleans, LA; Trinidad, West Indies; and Roswell, NM, before settling in Calgary in 1967.

Margaret was never without a book to read, from the time of her discovery of the public library in her school days until her last day. After leaving school, she found her dream job at that same public library, where she worked until her marriage. She was a devoted mother and dedicated volunteer. She volunteered first with her local church and later with Girl Guides and at her children’s schools, often in the libraries. She was a volunteer at the Bethany Care Center library for over 25 years, and served on the board and as president of the Good Companions 50 Plus Club.

She meant the world to us. We are broken without her.
