Obituary of John Patrick PULLAR

May 7, 1946 – Shawinigan, QC February 23, 2018 – Calgary, AB John Patrick Pullar passed away peacefully in the early hours of February 23, 2018 at the age of 71 years. Surviving John are his daughter, Tracy and his son, Shawn. His partner Lynda, will miss him terribly and the future they were planning together. John’s son-in-law, Jason, will miss him with every home renovation he tackles. John was the very proud grandfather of Jack, Luke and Isabella, who are holding him in their hearts. He is also survived by his brother Rob and sisters, Ann and Lynn. John was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Moira. He was also predeceased by his wife, partner and best friend, Linda (nee Gordon), who he missed every day. On October 12, 1968, John and Linda married in Montreal, Quebec and soon started their family. John was called to a booming Alberta in the 1970’s where he quickly made his mark working for Loram and then D.I.S. Consultants. John soon began his own company under QByte Land, which branched out into Explorer Software Solutions; a company providing asset management software to the Oil and Gas Industry. John and Explorer enjoyed great success in Calgary and to this day more than 250 companies continue to utilize this product. John was the sum of various different tiny things and only a precious few knew of these many facets. A favourite motto of John’s was ‘Work Hard, Play Hard’ and he did, in everything. Anyone who is anyone knows he could play drums to the classic song ‘Wipeout’ by the Safaris. He loved to spend time with family and friends; and whether it was at his basement bar or around a kitchen table, sooner or later we were all witness to his ‘Running Bear’ renditions. He had a passion for finishing every basement of every home he lived in; he laboured over framing and electrical projects for hours. Later he moved to woodworking, lovingly crafting wooden tables and other cherished items for family. He was a classic Corvette lover and was very proud of his car collection. John was also an avid sports nut and played basketball (which he also refereed), baseball (which he also umpired) and hockey, where he ended up refereeing old-timers for years. He was thrilled when Linda finally took up golf; a long-held passion for John. They were members at the Douglasdale golf course for many years and after their move to Okotoks in the early 2000’s, they joined Cottonwood as well as Crystal Ridge. When Linda fell ill, John gave up everything to care for the love of his life. And when she lost her battle with cancer, we all lost a bit of John as well. It wasn’t until Lynda (yes, another one) came into John’s world and helped him to be happy again. Months spent between their home on the lake in Okotoks and a house in Palm Springs, parties with friends, visits with family and even more golf, turned their time together into a blink of an eye. Now we are all left behind, mourning Big Bad John and his burly, mischievous, stubborn, lovable self. He was larger than life. He was our hero in many ways, for many years, and will be missed more than words can express. A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at Crystal Ridge Golf and Country Club (9 Crystal Green Way, Okotoks, AB) on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. where we will surely hoist a scotch or two and toast our father, grandfather, partner and friend.
