Obituary of Lucille Mary HAINES

May 17, 1929 - Youngstown, AB

August 25, 2020 - Ponoka,  AB

Lucille Mary Haines peacefully left this world August 25, 2020 surrounded by her children in Ponoka, AB at the age of 91 years.

Lucille was born in Youngstown, AB and raised in Dawson Creek, or what she referred to as "the north country". Lucille loved to recount many stories about her childhood and youth growing up in the North Country. Being the eldest child her responsibilities included helping to manage the household and raise her younger siblings. She always spoke with immense pride, of her mother and father and their dray line business.

Lucille met and married Bill Haines in 1950 and subsequently had four children; Bryan, Kevin, Blaine and finally Michelle Lea. After her divorce, Lucille remained in Calgary and raised her children; maintaining a position with the Calgary Professional Club for 25 years.

Upon retirement, Lucille met Fred Johnson and subsequently moved to Airdrie for 22 years. The two of them enjoyed many years together travelling, dancing,  golfing, being active in the Legion, and later adventures with the Over 50 Club. In 2016 Lucille and Fred moved to Wetaskiwin, AB and in 2018 Lucille moved to Ponoka.

In 1979 Lucille reunited with her daughter, Dianne. Lucille and her daughters enjoyed many adventures together celebrating their birthday milestones.

Lucille will be remembered as a character: feisty, never shy to express her opinion, determined, and a strong principled woman. She was always dressed immaculately with hair styled, perfectly manicured nails, make up and jewellery. It was a standing joke for Fred that he had the manicurist on 911 in the event of a broken nail.

Lucille was extremely proud of her children and valued her many longtime friends and relatives. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered always.

She leaves to mourn her loss sons, Kevin (Gloria) of Calgary, and Blaine (Jackie) of Ponoka; daughters, Michelle Lea Patram (Henry) of Calgary, and Dianne Longson of Vancouver, BC; daughter-in-law Jacqueline Lessard of Christina Lake, BC; brother Mike (Joy) Kennedy of Dawson Creek, BC, and sister Iris (Neil) Brennan of Vernon, BC; as well as numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Lucille was predeceased by her son Bryan, brothers Larry Kennedy and Patrick Kennedy, ex-husband William (Bill) Haines,  and her partner of 25 years Fred Johnson.

As per Lucille’s wishes no formal services will be held. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Lucille’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
