August 31, 1928 – Melfort, Saskatchewan February 21, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta “We lost a Great Man Today” Our dad, Herb Flanagan of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the age of 89 years. Dad was born in Melfort, SK. on August 31, 1928. Dad obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and then moved to Calgary where he began a successful career as a landman and was a CAPL member for over forty-eight years. In Calgary, he was in the RCAF Reserves and was a pilot with the 403 Squadron. Dad was an adventurous soul, always seeking something new, whether it be flying, hunting, sailing or travelling. Dad loved to tell a good story and was very proud of his Irish heritage. Needless to say, St. Patrick’s Day was one of his favourite celebrations! Dad and Gramps was a kind and generous man. Although he endured many hardships, he was our rock and strength through those difficult times. Dad is survived by his four children and their spouses, Mike and Tricia, Cori, Kelle and Brad, and Colleen and Rob; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and by his two sisters, Colleen Gilliland of Saskatoon, SK and Maureen Flanagan of Walnut Creek, California. He was predeceased by his wife Leona Helen (nee Lutz) and daughter Carla.
