August 12, 1954 – Brampton, Ontario
September 2, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta
Glenn Allan McClure, beloved husband and best friend of Debra McClure of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at the age of 66 years, after fighting a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Glenn was born in Brampton, ON. He attended the Mayfield Secondary School and graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Arts, the University of Western Ontario for teaching, and the University of Calgary for a Master's in Education. He was also a Qualified Professional Mediator with a certificate from Mount Royal University.
Glenn was an educator for over thirty-five years. First as a teacher, then as an assistant principal, principal, and superintendent. He even began training future teachers through the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University as he entered into semi-retirement. Glenn was an excellent educational leader and was well respected by his colleagues.
Glenn loved his family, his home and his pets. He would regularly walk his dog Georgie in Cochrane Ranche as a way to relax. He was also a big movie lover, action and science fiction being his favourite genres. Glenn had a beautiful garden at the home he shared with his wife Debra. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time outside creating beautiful spaces. Glenn did quite a lot of travelling throughout his life but he would always say that his most memorable vacation was his honeymoon with his wife, Debra. They travelled through the Greek Islands which was an amazing way to start a marriage. He will be most remembered for his strong will and kind heart.
“At the end of life, what really matters is not what we bought but what we built; not what we got but what we shared; not our competence but our character; not our success, but our significance.”
Besides his loving wife Debra, Glenn is survived by his son Evan McClure; two daughters and one son-in-law, Tessa and Oloff Dreyer, and Emma McClure; step-son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Su Forsyth; two step-daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Kevin O'Donoghue, and Andrea and Gilles Brassart; grandson Johan Dreyer; and step-grandchildren, Emily O'Donoghue, Kaylie O'Donoghue, Lola Brassart, Sebastien Brassart, Logan Forsyth, and Connor Forsyth. He is also survived by his mother Betty McClure; brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Arlene McClure; sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Dave Findlay; his Yorkie cross named Georgie. She is a sweet, faithful girl who will miss Glenn dearly. Glenn is also survived by numerous extended family and friends.
Glenn was predeceased by his father Albert McClure Jr.
