Obituary of Meryl Margret PEARCE

July 3, 1920 - Grandview, Manitoba
September 3, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Meryl Pearce, beloved wife of Sidney Henry Pearce of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at the age of 100 years.

Meryl was born in Grandview, MB and moved to Edmonton, AB in her early years where she received her schooling and went on to graduate from Normal School as a teacher.  She was teaching school north of Edmonton, when she met her future husband, Sidney, and they were married in 1941. During the course of their lives they lived in various places in Canada, but ended up in Calgary.

Meryl was very musical and enjoyed singing in choirs, groups or as a soloist. She also played the piano, organ and accordion, and played as church organist until she finally gave it up at age eighty-six, due to arthritis. She was the organist and pianist at Killarney Baptist Church in Calgary, the First Baptist Church in Salmon Arm, BC and at Fairview Baptist in Calgary. She also enjoyed sharing her abilities with others. She was very involved with her church, teaching Sunday school, and being involved in the music and activities involving the whole family. For many years she was the cook at summer Bible camp and enjoyed the children and adults that she met and worked with there. She also enjoyed reading, scrabble, and crossword puzzles. She was an adept seamstress, sewing for her-self and family, and others from time to time.

Above all, Meryl was a wife and mother. Meryl is survived by her children, Gary Pearce of Courtney, BC, Carol Williams of Calgary AB, and Dave (Deb) Pearce of Calgary, AB. She also leaves to mourn her brother Ralph Maxwell of Truro, NS, sisters, Beryl Goodman of Provost, AB, Noel Edmunds of Calgary, AB, sister-in-law Barb Maxwell of Victoria, BC; her granddaughter, Allison (Jared) Wiebe; and great-granddaughters, Avery and Leighana; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Meryl was predeceased by her husband Sid and her son Brian, her brothers, Wes and Jim Maxwell, and her sisters, Rita Guthrie, Marjorie Robertson and Beth Campbell.
