Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth CAMERON

May 7, 1923 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan February 10, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta The family of Betty Cameron announces with sadness that Betty passed away on February 10, 2018 at the age of 94 years. Betty is survived by daughters, Judi Morton (Philip Morton), Wendy Morris (Thomas Morris), Patricia Cameron (Brian Smith) and Bonnie Cameron (Ross Lemire). She is also survived by four grandchildren, Lisa Irving, Scott Morris, Jason and Jeffrey Morton; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-four years, Joseph Kerr Cameron in 2003; by her brother Robert Griffiths; and sisters Molly Thorson and Patricia Dryden. Betty was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She was the daughter of Ernest (Joe) Griffiths and Mary Griffiths. Her family was well known in the community with Joseph garnering notoriety as a Professor of Athletics and an Olympic coach. Betty was proud that the stadium at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon was named in her Fathers honour. Betty married Joe Cameron after he returned from WWII and they had four daughters before Joe took a job transfer to Calgary in 1958. They moved into a new home in the District of Haysboro which was the outskirts of the city at that time. Betty and Joe were very active in the community and they were instrumental in establishing both the Haysboro Community Association and St. Andrew’s United Church. Betty worked in the financial industry then later was Pastoral Care Coordinator at St. Andrews United Church. In her retirement, she loved to look after the many gardens in her large yard. In her most recent years, she enjoyed living in her little suite at Lake Bonavista Retirement Village. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home with interment at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens at a later date.
